Hi. Let me start out by introducing myself. My name is Jena (pronounced like Jennifer) and I live in Minnesota. I’m a 30 something, married and have two beautiful girls, age 2 and 5. I am lucky to be a stay at home mom with my girls during the day, and work part time at night as a Home Health Aid, which is like a nurse for the elderly.
I love to sew, embroider, applique, make felt food, kids clothing, toys and other fun things. I am obsessed with polka dots and cupcakes and fabric (just ask my husband)!
I’m a third generation crafter. My grandma and mom are also crafty. My mother is a master artist and does beautiful custom murals and can paint literally anything on anything (I unfortunately did not get this gift)! My mother and I used to own our own painting/decorating/staging business for several years, but when the housing marker and economy crashed, well so did our business. My grandma still loves to knit and sew and taught me the art of making handmade goods not look homemade.
One day, about 4 years ago I decided I was going to make a handbag after landing on a crafty website called Craftster. Of course inspiration did not hit me until about 9pm at night but I said what the heck and feverishly started cutting and sewing (and seam ripping!) and by morning I had made my first handbag. I was so proud of myself and have loved sewing ever since.
I currently use a white sewing machine (that is borrowed from my Aunt- Thanks Jules) that I absolutely love! I do not own a serger yet, but would like to get a Babylock in the future. I have a craft room, or as I like to call it the Crap room because it is also a storage room. A tiny 8×10 room that is in desperate need of a makeover and some fabric purging!
I am also in a Once A Month (or freezer) Cooking group and enjoy trying new recipes. My favorite cookbook is Fix, Freeze, Feast, altho Don’t Panic More Dinners in the Freezer is a close second. I also enjoy canning or preserving and baking from time to time. But my real passion with food is making fun stuff with the kids or doing things out of the box, like a heart shaped meatloaf for my hubby on Valentines Day.
My friends will tell you I am a Frugalista. Which is a nice term for penny pincher! I am currently writing an e-book on how to save hundreds a dollars a month by using coupons. I will keep you updated on the progress and hopefully have it finished in the next couple months.
So that’s me and and I hope you will join me on this joyous journey through the blogosphere…
